Why study at the UWB FA?
The mission of the Faculty of Arts of the UWB is to provide quality education within the accredited study programmes focused on humanities, social sciences, philological and historical fields, and to develop research activities.
The Faculty is currently comprised of the Department of Philosophy, Department of Political Sciences and International Relations, Department of the English Language and Literature, Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies, Department of Romance Languages, Department of Archaeology, Department of Anthropology, Department of Middle Eastern Studies, Department of Historical Sciences, and Department of Sociology and Social Work.
The follow-up master study programmes of the UWB FA are designed to properly complement the study programmes offered by other Czech universities, and to meet the current education structure in the countries of the European Union.
Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the UWB will give you education within the chosen study field but also quality knowledge of foreign languages, intellectual flexibility, creativity, and interdisciplinary and general cultural outlook, all of which guarantee good career options on the immensely dynamic and changeable labour market of the 21st century.
Scientific research at the Faculty of Arts of the University of West Bohemia is characterised by interdisciplinarity shaped by the composition of study programmes and the research focus of the lecturers. This interdisciplinary orientation is complemented and balanced by consistently establishing contacts, cooperation, and exchange with national and foreign higher education and scientific institutions.
The Faculty and its departments co-operate with foreign universities within the Erasmus+ and Inter programmes to realize both student and teacher exchanges.
The long-term intention of the Faculty of Arts of the University of West Bohemia is to create an important centre of education and research, which will contribute to the all-round intellectual, spiritual, and economic growth of the West Bohemian region and which will become one of the leading higher education institutions in the country.
