FOR SCHOOLS
The Faculty of Arts strives to work closely with secondary as well as primary schools. Staff and students from all our departments offer a wide range of activities for secondary and primary school students. We will come to you and organise a professional lecture, seminar or workshop. But you're also welcome to visit our faculty. See the classrooms, laboratories, and engage in debates with academics and students. As another option, join our experts on a guided tour of the sights of West Bohemia.
OUR ACTIVITIES
TAKING LANGUAGES TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS
The study of languages is usually a very popular option students seeek at our faculty. Our lecturers regularly visit secondary schools in the region and discuss with students the study in the Foreign Languages for Bsuiness programme. Last year, a presentation on this study programme was held at the Sports Grammar School in Pilsen and the study programme was continuously presented to students of the Waldorf Lyceum Dobromysl as a future study option.
In November, the Department of Philological Studies organised a workshop with the students of the grammar school in Hořovice.
ARCHAEOLOGY IN SCHOOLS
The Department of Archaeology of the UWB Faculty of Arts cooperates with a number of primary, secondary schools and grammar schools in the Pilsen region. Within the prepared lectures, pupils and students have the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of an archaeologist through selected topics focusing on the theory and method of the field, regional and international archaeology. Interested students have the opportunity to use the lectures at their schools as well as the programme prepared in the laboratories of the department. They also have the opportunity to take advantage of the offer of thematic excursions around the city of Pilsen - Archaeological Pilsen, to the archaeological sites of Pilsen-Hradiště, Pilsen-Litice Castle and other castle sites in the vicinity of Pilsen, including Komberk, Kyjov and Radyně castles. The programme is always prepared with respect to the age group of the audience, from kindergartens to high school and grammar school students.
In previous years, lectures were held at the Kardinála Berana Kindergarten in Pilsen, 15th Elementary School in Pilsen, Masaryk Grammar School, Grammar School in Pilsen on Mikulášské náměstí, Luděk Pik Grammar School, Grammar School of Jaroslav Vrchlický in Klatovy, Grammar School and Secondary Vocational School in Plasy, Primary School "Elementary" in Pilsen, 1st Primary School in Hořovice or Grammar School in Roudnice nad Labem.
PROJECT DAY
As part of the History Day organized by the grammar school in Klatovy, there was a invitation to give two lectures. The first one was focused on the archaeology of early Premyslid settlements (hillforts) with special reference to the West Bohemian region. The second lecture was devoted to the introduction of modern trends in archaeology, specifically non-invasive methods of detection, documentation and analysis of prehistoric and historic sites. Special attention was paid to the principles of remote archaeological survey (visual prospection from aircraft, working with satellite imagery and the use of airborne laser/lidar landscape scanning data). The main emphasis in this presentation was on the use of modern technologies with regard to the ethical importance of non-invasive (non-destructive) practices in the care of the archaeological component of the national cultural heritage.
PREPARE YOURSELF FOR COLLEGE
Our experts can supervise high school students who are able to use the labs and facilities of our faculty for their activities. Just like the student of the J. Vrchlický Grammar School in Klatovy, who attends our Biological Anthropology Laboratory under the supervision of Anna Pankowska.
LECTURES ALSO FOR TEACHERS
We cooperate with the Regional Centre for Education
- Veronika Sobotková: lecture for teachers of secondary and primary schools (history, geography, and social studies): Middle East – Present Conflicts and Problems
- Jan Záhořík: lecture for teachers of secondary and primary schools (history, geography, and social studies): Africa in the 21st Century – heritage of the past and challenges of the future
WE ARE INTERESTED IN THE MOTIVATION OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
We approach secondary schools in the Pilsen region in order to map the motivations of high school students to go to university (once every two years) in an attempt to broaden the visibility of our faculty and to gain an insight into the needs and preferences of high school students.
