The Faculty of Arts
The Faculty of Arts is a modern, creative, and open faculty offering a wide range of programmes in social sciences and humanities. It plays an important role within the social and cultural space of the Pilsen city, accentuated by the numerous activities and events organised or co-organised by its students and employees. Besides the traditional fields of philosophy, archaeology, and history, the Faculty is focused on studies of the modern society, the Middle East and African regions, the post-Soviet area, deprived localities, the history of science and technology, the history of international relations, paleoanthropology, the transformation of post-communist society, or international security. Furthermore, it pays attention to the studies of foreign languages and cultivates Czech-Bavarian co-operation and relations with relevant institutions of the state administration and non-profit sphere. An important aspect of the Faculty environment is international co-operation on many levels, which is profitable for our students within all types of programmes. As part of its study programmes, the Faculty offers lessons of English, French, German, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew, and Persian.
The Faculty is currently comprised of ten departments: Department of English Language and Literature, Department of Anthropology, Department of Archaeology, Department of Middle East Studies, Department of Philosophy, Department of German and Slavic Studies, Department of Historical Sciences, Department of Political Science and International Relations, Department of Romance Languages, and Department of Sociology.
