The Archaelogy of Dark Heritage. Nazi and Communism Camps on the Border Between Bavaria and Bohemia
The aim of the project "Archaeology of Dark Heritage. Nazi and communist camps on the border between Bavaria and Bohemia" is to present the dark cultural heritage of the various Nazi and communist camps on the border between Bavaria and Bohemia. The project is based on a cooperation between the Technical University of Deggendorf, which has long been working on non-invasive technologies for remote exploration of the earth's surface and subsurface structures, and the Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Arts, UWB, which is the only Czech specialist department oriented towards archaeological research on the dark heritage of the 20th century. The project will document and present forgotten monuments, which are selected branch camps of the central KZ Flossenbürg and communist camps in the Jáchymov region. The most valuable output of the project will be the detailed documentation of these neglected monuments of the 20th century, which will be the basis for modern forms of presentation and awareness-raising. At the same time, they will serve as a basis for strengthening their conservation (they will be handed over to the National Heritage Institute in Plzeň and Loket) and will be used in the collection of memories of survivors (under the leadership of the Post Bellum partner). All the results of the project will be presented in an educational way to the general public on both sides of the border, because even the dark sides of history are an integral part of the common cultural heritage of the region. The project will contribute to the understanding of the shared regional identity, the promotion of friendly Czech-Bavarian relations, the strengthening of humanity and democracy in the border area through information about the common history and the consequences of repression.
