Philosophy for Artificial Intelligence
Would you like to know if machines can think? If ChatGPT understands your words and gains consciousness? Whether the humankind is ready for superintelligence? Whether robots can act ethically? How to distinguish reality from the matrix? And when will robots replace humans?
These are the questions to which interdisciplinary research team in Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence seeks answers investigating the theoretical aspects of new information technologies, and more recently in particular the tools of generative artificial intelligence. It links the philosophical exploration of human thought and language with the technical development and practical application of these technologies. The current phenomenon of generative artificial intelligence, which has begun to penetrate all spheres of human activities in a globalised world, is transforming our ways of thinking and communication and raises a number of controversial expectations. Therefore, the phenomenon of artificial intelligence needs to be studied and investigated in a broader philosophical and societal context, along with an understanding of the technical principles on which AI applications are based. Philosophy thus ceases to be a story of remarkable abstract ideas, but becomes an essential and beneficial part of successful and rewarding AI research and development.
