knezi

The goal of this monograph is to provide a complex overview of the Katovice hillfort. During the project, the available fund of sources was processed. An effort was made to involve the largest number of interdisciplinary methods possible in a given time and expand knowledge of the site as much as possible while placing it into the broader context of development in the region. In light of the low state of knowledge of elevated sites of the early medieval period in South Bohemia (with the exception of Němětice), new findings are all the more valuable.

Air Suervey and Remove Sensing in Archeology

Martin Gojda

air

In the history of archaeology we can find a limited number of disciplines that have significantly – and in certain aspects decisively – contributed to the study and understanding of prehistoric and historical (mainly ancient and medieval) periods of the human past. Remote sensing (survey) is undoubtedly one of them. The importance of its integration into the study of settlement processes in the past has been compared to the importance of the invention of telescope for the study of space. The boook describes air survay and remove sensing in archaeology from the history to the present.

Frank Wenig. Novinář, spisovatel, spolupracovník Josefa Skupy

Jitka Bílková

frank

The aim of the book is to present Frank Wenig, the important personality of the Pilsen region, as a person with a wide range of interests and an amazing amount of activities: besides his profession as a teacher he was a journalist, a writer and cooperated with Josef Skupa and his puppet theatre as well. Excessive correspondence with personalities of (mainly Pilsen) cultural and social life and with many friends expresses Wenig´s character and attitude towards work. Numerous examples of his newspaper articles accompanied by extensive notes with a brief summary of the mentioned articles help the reader to learn about the scale of topics that Wenig wrote about. Wenig cooperated with Josef Skupa for a long period and is the author or coauthor of Skupa´s puppet theatre plays, the author of the texts for Spejbl and Hurvínek designed for radio broadcasting, and of the sketches and dialogues for these marionettes performed on various stages on numerous occasions; he wrote books about Kašpárek, Spejbl and Hurvínek as well. The chapters about this cooperation and about the creation of Spejbl and Hurvínek are based on the correspondence between the two artistes and on the scripts. The following analysis is focused on the characteristics of so called „Spejbl´s speech“ (the Spejbl´s special phrasing and use of words which reflects also the atmosphere of that period). An important part of the book is devoted to Wenig´s own independent artistic work (beyond Skupa´s theatre and characters of Spejbl and Hurvínek), which is amazingly plentiful. It includes books for children and the youth, stories published in magazines and newspapers, humourous texts and books, poetry and editorial work. All is dealt with here in a way similar to the part about Wenig´s journalistic work (the overview with extensive notes with a brief summary of the plots of the stories, books and plays) to inform about Wenig´s artistic inclinations and style of writing; the period reviews of Wenig´s literary work are also incorporated. Subsequent analyses are concentrated on some of the characteristic features of Wenig´s work, such as description of nature, specifics of the manners and speech and upbringing of that day, didactic elements present in his work, specifics of his humour; typical features of his stories and locations of the plots are also mentioned. The book tries to bring an overall review of Frank Wenig´s written heritage currently held in the State Regional Archive in Pilsen, Archive of the City of Pilsen, private I. Wenigová´s and M. Jílková´s archives; the information presented in relevant published resources is also included.

Československý churban - Mnichovská dohoda a druhá československá republika optikou sionistického jišuvu v Palestině (1938–1939)

Zbyněk Tarant

ceskoslovensky

This book analyzes the responses of the Zionist Yishuv in Palestine to the Munich agreement 1938, second Czechoslovak Republic and the Nazi occupation of Bohemia in Moravia in March 1939. It is based on more than 2500 newspaper articles in Hebrew and English, most of which were never analyzed before. The book documents how the Zionist press strived to process the „Munich trauma“ in line with the Zionist self-reliance ethos ahead of the fateful St. James conference in London, which put the entire Jewish national enterprise into jeopardy.

Akademická svoboda jako filosofický problém: Pravda, spravedlnost a profesionální odpovědnost

Libor Benda

akademicka

Academic freedom is regarded as a fundamental principle that determines the ability of academic institutions to perform their social function with full professional integrity. However, it is also a rather problematic concept whose meaning is defined and interpreted in various, often entirely incompatible ways across the academic community (and beyond). Against the background of the current expert discussion, the study offers a critical reflection on what academic freedom is, what function it should perform within academia, and its relationship to general political freedoms, such as intellectual freedom and freedom of speech. Its aim is to show, among other things, that any consideration of the content and meaning of academic freedom cannot in principle be separated from more general considerations about the meaning and role of academia itself.

Hledání Boží tváře: Ježíš Nazaretský v pohledu Josepha Ratzingera - Benedikta XVI.

Pavel Frývaldský

hledani

This work presents the outline of Joseph Ratzinger’s Christology; it deals with all his Christological work, but focuses on the Pope’s book about Jesus Christ. In the thesis also theological disputes are considered which was raised mainly in German-speaking theology. The first chapter gives a brief biography of Joseph Ratzinger – Benedict XVI and a survey of his Christological work. Also it lists literature concerning Ratzinger’s book about Jesus. The second chapter deals with Ratzinger’s basic methodological approaches towards Christology. The first topic is the relationship between ‘historical Jesus’ and ‘the Christ of faith’, or between historic and theological exegetics. Another question is the relation of Christ and the Jewish tradition, or the Old and New Testament. The third sphere is the relationship between biblical faith and philosophical (historical) reason. In the third chapter the analysis of substantial areas of Ratzinger’s Christology is given. First theology of incarnation is examined: the reflexion of hypostatic union, relationship between incarnation and theology of the cross. Then pre-Easter Jesus is introduced, theology of the cross and soteriology. In the conclusion the results are summarised and evaluated.

Archeologie v Železných horách.Výsledky nedestruktivního archeologického výzkumu v lesním prostředí

Jan Musil; Petr Netolický; Michal Preusz

archeologie

The predominantly forested Ore Mountains (Železné hory) are still a vast and untapped source of knowledge for medieval and modern archeology. As is clear from comparisons of written and archeological sources, archeological sources in this region have a hitherto unexplored potential. Geodetic-topographic survey of the area combined with results from remote archeological survey is still in its beginnings, but it is yielding fruitful results nonetheless. Since the beginning, we have evaluated the Ore Mountains as a territory that formed both a natural and socio-economic and political border between two plane regions, i.e. the districts of Chrudim and Čáslav. The hilly region was a bountifully forested and less-accessible space, which had a great influence on the direction of settlement and the development of farming oriented not only on agriculture, but also on the processing of wood, production of timber, wood coal and tar, and the mining of raw materials, specifically iron and gold.

Treblinka a Sobibór: Vyhlazovací sektor Treblinky v druhé funkční fázi v porovnání se sektorem smrti v Sobiboru

Michal Chocholatý

treblinka

The book examines in detail the conditions in the extermination sector of the SS-Sonderkommando Treblinka death camp, with a time anchor in the so-called second functional phase (September 1942 - August 1943). In the context of comparison, it simultaneously portrays the situation in the death sector of the typologically related Sobibor camp. It takes into account both the perspective of the Jewish prisoners who were forced to participate directly in the extermination operations and the perspective of the staff, both Germans and their minions, the Ukrainian guards.
